Deane L. Wolcott, MD, FAPOS, is the 2017 recipient of the Holland Distinguished Leadership Award, which was presented recently at the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS) Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Wolcott is the founding Director of Oncology Supportive Care Services at Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, in Los Angeles.

Dr. Wolcott, Past President of APOS, is internationally recognized for expertise in models for the delivery of comprehensive, multidisciplinary, patient-centered, high-value psychosocial oncology/oncology supportive care services. As founding Director of the Oncology Suportive Care Services, he created the first fully integrated interdisciplinary supportive care program in the country. Further, he created a new deeply respectful way for professionals to communicate and support one another. Dr. Wolcott had a robust impact on supportive care programs internationally.

The Holland Distinguished Leadership Award is named for Jimmie Holland, MD, Founding President of APOS and the Wayne E. Chapman Chair of Psychiatry at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Holland is recognized internationally as the founder of the subspecialty of psycho-oncology. More recently, Dr. Holland started the Geriatric Psychiatry team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, which focuses on the needs of older cancer survivors. ■
