THE U.S. PREVENTIVE Services Task Force (Task Force) announced the addition of two new members: Michael Cabana, MD, MA, MPH, and Lori Pbert, PhD. Both were appointed to serve 4-year terms, which began in January 2019.

Dr. Cabana is Professor of Pediatrics, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics and a member of the core faculty at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He is also Chief of the UCSF Division of General Pediatrics. Dr. Cabana’s research focuses on understanding and improving the diagnosis, prevention, and management of common childhood conditions, particularly pediatric asthma. Dr. Cabana works as a clinical pediatrician at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and the UCSF Pediatrics at Mount Zion Clinic, all in San Francisco.
Dr. Pbert is Professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences, Associate Chief of the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine, and Founder and Director of the Center for Tobacco Treatment Research and Training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is a clinical psychologist and behavioral scientist with 30 years of experience designing and evaluating pragmatic, sustainable approaches to integrating preventive health interventions into existing clinical practice to inform evidence-based guidelines and best practices. Dr. Pbert’s research focuses on tobacco and obesity prevention and treatment, particularly in youth and families. ■
