The World Health Organization has launched a global SOLIDARITY clinical trial to study treatments for COVID-19. To date, Argentina, Bahrain, Canada, France, Iran, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, and Thailand are participating in the trial, and other countries are expected to join in this effort. The drugs being tested in the study include the antiviral drug remdesivir; a combination of two HIV drugs, lopinavir and ritonavir; lopinavir and ritonavir plus interferon beta; and the antimalarial drug chloroquine.
