Dr. James O. Armitage joins The ASCO Post as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief and will be instrumental in steering the editorial direction of the newspaper as well as vetting the content for clinical integrity, accuracy, and merit. A former President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Dr. Armitage is an internationally renowned hematologist-oncologist with expertise in bone marrow transplantation and the management and classification of lymphoma and leukemia. Dr. Armitage is active on several national and international committees. He is the author/coauthor of over 400 articles, 95 book chapters, and 450 abstracts, and he is the editor/co-editor of 24 books.

Dr. Armitage is currently the Joe Shapiro Professor of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Armitage was in private practice for a 2-year period and then returned to the University of Iowa as an Assistant Professor of Medicine, where he developed and was director of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program. Later Dr. Armitage returned to the University of Nebraska where he has since served the section of hematology/oncology in multiple capacities.
